Hopewell Rocks (Canada)

Weather…

The Hopewell Rocks, also known as the Flowerpot Rocks, are located on the shores of the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick. These distinctive geological formations were shaped over millions of years by the world's highest tides, which can reach vertical heights of up to 16 meters. Twice daily, the massive flow of water carves into the base of the sandstone and conglomerate cliffs, creating isolated towers of rock. At low tide, visitors can walk on the ocean floor to explore the sea caves and massive formations from below, while at high tide, the rocks become small islands accessible only by kayak. The rocks are topped with trees and shrubs, giving them their iconic flowerpot appearance. This area is a significant part of the Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park and serves as an important site for observing coastal erosion in real-time. Geologically, the site dates back to the Carboniferous period, approximately 300 million years ago, providing researchers with insights into ancient environmental conditions and sedimentary processes.
