Gwaii Haanas National Park Forest (Canada)

Weather…

Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve is located in the southern part of Haida Gwaii, off the coast of British Columbia. It covers an area of approximately 1,470 square kilometers and is co-managed by the Government of Canada and the Haida Nation. The park protects a unique convergence of marine ecosystems and temperate rainforests, dominated by massive Western Red Cedars and Sitka spruces. A cultural focal point is the UNESCO World Heritage site of SGang Gwaay on Anthony Island, which preserves original Haida totem poles in their natural setting. The region's biological isolation has led to the evolution of numerous endemic species, earning it the nickname Galapagos of the North. Historically, the area was the site of significant blockades and protests in the 1980s regarding logging and indigenous land rights. Today, visitor access is limited to preserve the delicate balance between the natural landscape and the living Haida culture.
