Fontaneda is a remote mountain village in the parish of Sant Julià de Lòria, located near Andorra's southern border with Spain. The settlement sits at an altitude of approximately 1,300 meters amidst a rugged mountain landscape defined by forests and agricultural plots. Fontaneda is particularly noted for its viticulture; it is home to some of the highest vineyards in Europe, cultivated on steep terraces. The architectural gem of the village is the Church of Sant Miquel de Fontaneda, a small Romanesque structure dating back to the 11th or 12th century. The church is characterized by its simple construction, featuring a semicircular apse and a modest bell gable. Historically, the village was an important center for livestock farming and interaction with neighboring Catalan valleys. Access to the village is via a narrow, winding road popular among cyclists as part of the ascent to Coll de la Gallina. With fewer than 100 inhabitants, Fontaneda has largely preserved its original character and tranquility. The surrounding area features excellent conditions for observing local flora and fauna.
