Hammam Debagh (Algeria)

Weather…

Hammam Debagh, formerly known as Hammam Meskhoutine, is one of Algeria's most extraordinary thermal sites, located in the Guelma Province in the northeastern part of the country. The site is world-famous for its spectacular calcareous waterfalls, which have formed over millennia through the deposition of minerals from the hot springs. The water emerges from the ground at temperatures of up to 95 degrees Celsius, making it one of the hottest springs in the world, second only to those in Iceland. These extreme temperatures cause the water to solidify as it cools in the air, creating impressive cone-shaped limestone formations and sinter terraces. Geographically, the site is situated in a hilly area rich in geothermal activity. In addition to the natural formations, Hammam Debagh provides modern spa facilities used for treating rheumatic and dermatological conditions. Historically, the site was already valued by the Romans under the name 'Aquae Thibilitanae,' evidenced by archaeological finds in the area. Local legends also imbue the bizarre stone formations with mystical significance.
