The Kadam Plateau is a relatively flat, high-altitude area that crowns the summit of Mount Kadam in northeastern Uganda. Situated at an elevation of over 2,500 meters, this plateau is a distinct feature from the steep slopes of the mountain and the Karamoja plains below. The plateau is the eroded remnant of an ancient volcano, and its flatter terrain contrasts with the rugged topography typical of the region. Due to its altitude, the plateau receives higher rainfall than the surrounding areas, leading to the development of unique montane forest and grassland ecosystems. This cool, moist environment is starkly different from the semi-arid savanna at the mountain's base. The plateau is largely uninhabited, and its isolation has helped to preserve its flora and fauna. It serves as a vital water catchment area, feeding springs and streams that are crucial for communities at lower elevations. For the Kadam and Tepeth peoples living in the foothills, the plateau holds spiritual significance and is rarely visited, which helps maintain its pristine condition.
