Lelić Monastery (Serbia)

Weather…

Lelić Monastery is situated in the village of the same name, about 11 kilometers from Valjevo on the slopes of Mount Povlen. Although it is one of Serbia's younger monastic complexes, established in 1929, it holds immense spiritual significance. It was founded by Saint Bishop Nikolaj Velimirović and his father, Dragomir. The architecture of the monastery church is a modern interpretation of the traditional Morava school, blended with Neo-Byzantine elements and featuring striking domes. Lelić is a major pilgrimage site because it houses the relics of Saint Nikolaj Velimirović, which were transferred here from the United States in 1991. The monastery grounds also include a small museum dedicated to the life and prolific theological works of the bishop. The peaceful environment and spiritual atmosphere make Lelić a sanctuary for contemplation. Alongside the nearby Ćelije Monastery, it forms the spiritual heart of the Valjevo region.
