Andrićgrad (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Weather…

Andrićgrad, also known as Stone Town, is a cultural center and district in Višegrad, Bosnia and Herzegovina, designed by filmmaker Emir Kusturica. The complex is dedicated to the Nobel Prize-winning author Ivo Andrić and was constructed between 2011 and 2014 on a peninsula at the confluence of the Drina and Rzav rivers. The architecture is an eclectic mix of various periods of Bosnian history, including Byzantine, Ottoman, and Renaissance styles. The project's goal was to recreate a fictional urban history that never existed but reflects the region's cultural identity. Within the complex are a town hall, a church, an institute for Slavic studies, a cinema, and various dining facilities. Andrićgrad serves as a filming location, a cultural hub, and a significant tourist destination near the famous Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge. It annually hosts literary festivals and scientific conferences that preserve the legacy of Ivo Andrić. The official opening took place on June 28, 2014, marking the 100th anniversary of the assassination in Sarajevo.
