Akagera National Park (Rwanda)

Weather…

Akagera National Park is located in eastern Rwanda along the border with Tanzania, representing Central Africa's largest protected wetland. Established in 1934, the park features a diverse landscape of savannahs, mountains, and an extensive system of lakes and marshes fed by the Akagera River. Following a period of decline in the 1990s, the park has been successfully rehabilitated and now hosts the 'Big Five', lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros, and buffalo. Notably, black rhinos and lions were reintroduced to restore the ecosystem's balance. With over 480 recorded bird species, including the rare Shoebill stork, Akagera is a premier destination for birdwatching. The park is currently managed through a partnership between the Rwanda Development Board and the African Parks organization.
