Bacău, the capital of the county of the same name in Romania's Moldavia region, is a dynamic city that serves as an important economic and cultural center for the area. Situated on the banks of the Bistrița River, the city is surrounded by a chain of lakes that are an important refuge for migratory birds and offer recreational opportunities for nature lovers. The city center was extensively modernized during the communist era but still preserves historical gems like the Precista Church, a beautiful example of 15th-century Moldavian architecture. Bacău is also known for its spirited cultural scene, with theaters, the "Iulian Antonescu" Museum Complex, and annual festivals. Cancicov Park is the city's green lung and a popular spot for walks and leisure activities. As the birthplace of the poet George Bacovia, the city is proud of its literary heritage, which is honored at the poet's memorial house. Bacău successfully combines its industrial base with a growing appreciation for culture and nature.
