Taboga Wildlife Refuge (Panama)

Weather…

The Taboga Wildlife Refuge encompasses large parts of the 'Island of Flowers' (Isla Taboga) in the Gulf of Panama, just a few kilometers from the capital. The island's steep, wooded hills provide a safe nesting site for one of the largest pelican colonies in Latin America. During the breeding season, thousands of brown pelicans populate the island's cliffs and mangroves. The refuge also protects the marine ecosystems around the island, where dolphins, rays, and, during seasonal migrations, humpback whales can often be observed. Despite the tourist popularity of Taboga's beaches, the refuge ensures that the ecologically sensitive breeding grounds remain untouched and can be scientifically researched.
