Omar Torrijos Recreational Park (Panama)

Weather…

Named after the popular military leader, the Parque Nacional General de División Omar Torrijos Herrera (or Parque El Copé for short) is located in Coclé province and protects a large part of the central mountain range (Cordillera Central). It was created to preserve the dense cloud forests and important watersheds that flow into the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. Due to the cool, misty climate, biodiversity is enormous; there are countless endemic species of orchids, ferns, and amphibians. The park is also historically significant: it was in these mountains that General Omar Torrijos's plane crashed in 1981 under circumstances that have never been fully clarified. For hikers, the park gives challenging trails with spectacular coast-to-coast views.
