Kirthar National Park extends over 3,000 square kilometers in the Kirthar Mountains, making it one of Pakistan's largest wildlife sanctuaries. It was established in 1974 to protect the endangered Sindh wild goat (Capra aegagrus blythi), whose population has since recovered. The landscape is arid and rocky, carved by deep valleys and plateaus. Besides the wild goat, the park is home to other mammal species such as the Sindh leopard, desert lynx, honey badger, and various species of gazelles. Archaeological sites like the Tombs of Taung and the prehistoric settlement of Koh Tarash bear witness to a long history of human habitation dating back to prehistoric times. The unique combination of natural and cultural heritage makes the park a significant destination for ecotourism and research.
