Frere Hall (Pakistan)

Weather…

Frere Hall is a historic building in Karachi that serves as a prominent example of Venetian Gothic architecture from the British colonial era. Completed in 1865, it was originally built to serve as a town hall and a memorial to Sir Henry Bartle Frere, who was the Commissioner of Sindh. The structure is constructed from local yellow Karachi limestone and features pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and ornate stone carvings. One of its most significant interior features is the massive ceiling mural titled Arz-e-Mashriq, or Land of the East, painted by the renowned Pakistani artist Sadequain. Today, the building houses the Liaquat National Library, which contains a vast collection of rare books and historical manuscripts. The surrounding grounds, known as Bagh-e-Jinnah, provide a large public park that hosts various cultural events and book fairs. Frere Hall remains an important architectural landmark that bridges the history of Karachi from its colonial past to the modern day.
