The Chaukhandi Tombs are an extraordinary necropolis located about 29 kilometers east of Karachi, renowned for their intricately carved sandstone funerary structures. This burial ground was primarily used between the 15th and 18th centuries by the Jokhio and Baloch tribes. The defining characteristic of this architecture is the use of yellow sandstone slabs stacked in multiple layers, giving the tombs a distinct pyramidal shape. The surfaces are covered with delicate stone carvings depicting jewelry, weapons, horses, and complex geometric patterns. These motifs often provide clues to the status and gender of the deceased: women's tombs are frequently decorated with jewelry motifs, while men's tombs feature depictions of swords and riders. The Chaukhandi style represents a unique regional artistic tradition in Sindh, blending tribal customs with Islamic funerary art. Despite its proximity to modern Karachi, the necropolis maintains a serene atmosphere that highlights the master craftsmanship of ancient artisans.

The Chaukhandi Tombs are an open necropolis that can be freely explored, with a path leading among the tombs. Visitors can view the elaborately carved sandstone tombs up close.
