Astore Valley in Gilgit-Baltistan is a strategically important valley connecting Gilgit to the Deosai Plateau and Kaghan Valley via the Babusar Pass. The valley is about 120 km long and is irrigated by the Astore River. It is known for its diverse landscape, which ranges from dry, rugged mountains in the lower part to lush green meadows and forests in the higher altitudes. The Rama Valley, with its scenic Rama Lake, is a major attraction. The region is also home to the Deosai National Park, the second-highest plateau in the world, known for its rich flora and fauna, especially the Himalayan brown bear. The population is composed of various ethnic groups, and their villages are positioned along the slopes and riverbanks.
