Lekki Lagoon is a significant brackish water ecosystem located in Lagos State, southwestern Nigeria. It is separated from the Atlantic Ocean by a narrow strip of land and is connected to the larger Lagos Lagoon to the west via a series of channels. Geographically, the lagoon is defined by its shallow waters and extensive mangrove forests, which serve as crucial nurseries for various species of fish and crustaceans. Historically, the area was a center for traditional fishing and salt production among the local coastal communities. In recent decades, rapid urban development in Lekki and Epe has put immense pressure on the natural environment. The lagoon plays a vital role in coastal protection and the regulation of the local microclimate. Getting there
Access is typically achieved by driving out from Lagos towards the eastern coastal areas, using the expressways. Many visitors hire local boats from surrounding villages to explore the inner waters of the lagoon.
Best season
The dry season, spanning from November to March, is widely considered the best time for boating and enjoying the shorelines. The prolonged rainy season can cause localized flooding and make water travel noticeably less pleasant.

The lagoon features a vast expanse of shallow, brackish water fringed by swamps and sandy coastal patches. The immediate banks can be marshy or densely vegetated, typical of the regional coastal wetlands.
What to bring
