Old Railway Station of Granada (Nicaragua)

Weather…

The Old Railway Station of Granada is an outstanding monument to Nicaragua's industrial heritage, reflecting the era of rail transport in the late 19th century. Inaugurated in 1886 during the presidency of Adán Cárdenas, it served as a vital hub for exporting agricultural products via Lake Nicaragua. The building's architecture is neoclassical, featuring elegant arcades and a distinctive clock tower that once signaled the arrival and departure of trains. Following the cessation of railway operations in Nicaragua in the 1990s, the building was extensively restored. Today, it houses a technical school and a museum where visitors can view historic steam locomotives and various railway artifacts. The structure is considered one of the best-preserved railway stations in Central America. It stands as a reminder of the country's economic modernization and Granada's strategic importance as a commercial center.
