Bjelasica (Montenegro)

Weather…

Bjelasica is one of Montenegro's most easy on the eye and ecologically diverse mountain ranges, located in the north-central part of the country. Unlike the rugged, arid limestone peaks typical of the region, Bjelasica is of volcanic origin, which has resulted in rolling green hills, lush pastures, and a remarkable abundance of water sources. The highest peak is Crna Glava, reaching an elevation of 2,139 meters. A significant portion of the range is protected within the Biogradska Gora National Park, which features one of Europe's last three virgin forests and the emerald Biogradsko Lake. The massif is home to six glacial lakes, colloquially known as 'mountain eyes,' which provide memorable vistas for hikers. During winter, Bjelasica serves as the hub of Montenegro's skiing industry, boasting modern facilities and extensive slopes. The range is also famous for its traditional 'katuns', seasonal shepherd settlements, where visitors can experience authentic highland hospitality and sample traditional organic dairy products.
