Biogradska Gora National Park, positioned in the Bjelasica mountain range, is home to one of the last three primeval forests in Europe. Established as a protected area in 1878 by Prince Nikola I, it is among the world's oldest national parks. The heart of the park is Biogradsko Lake, a remarkable glacial lake at 1094 meters altitude, encircled by ancient trees over 500 years old, some reaching 45 meters in height. The ecosystem is remarkably diverse, hosting over 2000 plant species and 150 types of birds. Visitors can enjoy a 3.4-kilometer educational trail that loops around the lake. Rowing boats are available for rent, and more adventurous hikers can tackle trails leading to high peaks like Crna Glava (2139 m). Near the lake, you can find basic wooden bungalows and a restaurant serving local highland dishes like Kačamak (maize and potato mash). The park is very easy to reach, with the entrance located right off the main E65 road between Kolašin and Mojkovac. The best time to visit is from spring to autumn, especially in October when the ancient forest turns golden.
