Rožaje is a town in northeastern Montenegro, situated on the Ibar River and surrounded by the Hajla and Turjak mountain ranges. The region has been inhabited since antiquity, but the modern town developed significantly during the Ottoman era from the 17th century onwards as a trading center. A significant historical landmark is the Ganića Kula, a residential tower built in 1797 that is typical of the architecture of this border region. Rožaje is known for its strong forestry tradition and timber processing, which shaped the local economy for decades. The town has a multi-ethnic structure, with Bosniak culture and traditions being particularly prominent. Due to its elevation of about 1000 meters, Rožaje is an important center for winter tourism and mountaineering in the border area with Kosovo.
