Edzná (Mexico)

Weather…

Edzná is a significant Maya site in the state of Campeche, known for its highly advanced water management system and unique architecture. The city was founded as early as 400 BC and reached its peak during the Classic period. The most impressive structure is the Building of Five Storeys (Edificio de los Cinco Pisos), situated on the Great Acropolis, which combines the functions of a temple and a residential palace. The Maya of Edzná developed an extensive network of canals and cisterns to collect rainwater and sustain agriculture in the arid region. The architecture exhibits influences from various styles, including Puuc and Chenes, highlighting the city's role as a cultural crossroads. The vast plaza in front of the Acropolis was utilized for religious ceremonies and public gatherings. By 1000 AD, the city gradually lost its importance and was eventually abandoned.
