Sanap Cliffs (Gozo)
The Sanap Cliffs are situated on the secluded southern coast of Gozo, near the villages of Munxar and Sannat. These monumental limestone formations rise vertically over 100 meters above the Mediterranean Sea, offering some of the most dramatic coastal panoramas in the Maltese islands. Geologically, the cliffs are composed of Globigerina limestone, which has been sculpted by millennia of wind and wave erosion into its current rugged profile. A well-maintained paved coastal path runs along the cliff edge, connecting the area to the famous Ta' Cenc Cliffs to the east and Xlendi Bay to the west. The site is a critical nesting ground for several species of seabirds, most notably the Cory's shearwater, which inhabits the crevices of the steep rock faces. During sunset, the cliffs glow with intense gold and orange hues, making them a premier location for landscape photography and hiking. Their remote position ensures a quiet atmosphere, preserved from large-scale tourism.
