Għargħur Parish Church (Malta)

Weather…

The Għargħur Parish Church is dedicated to Saint Bartholomew and is regarded as one of the architectural gems of Malta's rural villages. Construction of the current church began in 1610 according to the plans of the renowned Maltese architect Tumas Dingli, who was famous for his transitional style between Renaissance and Baroque. The main structure was completed by 1638, while the striking Doric-style facade was added much later in 1743. The interior of the church is richly adorned with sculptures and paintings, including a titular statue of Saint Bartholomew carved in Rome in 1902. Għargħur is one of the oldest villages in Malta, and the church has stood as the religious heart of the community for centuries. The annual feast in honor of the patron saint is held at the end of August, featuring traditional processions and elaborate fireworks displays.
