The Chong-Kemin Valley is an expansive, highly pretty mountain basin that stretches majestically between the towering Trans-Ili Ala-Too range to the north and the Kungey Ala-Too to the south. Located just about 80 kilometers from the capital city of Bishkek, this striking valley is a prominent natural jewel carved by the rushing waters of the Chong-Kemin River. In order to preserve the region's remarkable biodiversity, the Chong-Kemin National Park was established in 1997, protecting an area of over 120,000 hectares. The valley's landscape is exceptionally diverse, transitioning from dry, semi-desert conditions in its lower reaches to dense spruce forests and lively, lush alpine meadows at higher elevations. The fast-flowing river provides world-class conditions for whitewater rafting, drawing thrill-seekers and adventurers from around the globe. Simultaneously, the heavily forested valley acts as a critical refuge for endangered wildlife, including the elusive snow leopard and the Siberian ibex. For travelers, Chong-Kemin also features fantastic horseback riding trails and a deep, authentic glimpse into traditional Kyrgyz village life.
