Solingen is a major city in the Bergisches Land region of North Rhine-Westphalia and has officially held the suffix 'City of Blades' (Klingenstadt) since 2012. This designation goes back to the centuries-old tradition of manufacturing cutlery, for which Solingen is world-famous and whose name is legally protected. A historical highlight is Schloss Burg in the district on the Wupper, which was built in the 12th century as the ancestral seat of the Counts of Berg and is now one of the largest reconstructed castle complexes in Germany. Another landmark is the Müngsten Bridge, which, at a height of 107 meters, is the highest railway steel bridge in the Federal Republic. The city is also home to the German Blade Museum, which documents the history of knife and weapon production from the Bronze Age to the present. Economically, the city remains a center for special steel processing and the production of high-quality household appliances.

In the morning, we explore picturesque Gräfrath with its slate-clad houses and visit the world-famous Blade Museum. At noon, we stroll through the Fauna animal park and enjoy the green surroundings. In the afternoon, we dive into industrial history at a former drop forge. The evening concludes in Solingen city center with local gastronomy.
This bike tour takes us through hilly terrain to Solingen's most spectacular structures. We start at Germany's highest railway bridge and cycle to the imposing castle. Along the Wupper, we discover historical grinding shops that still testify to the old craft tradition. A visit to the Ohligs bird park completes the tour before we return.
By car, we efficiently connect Solingen's widely scattered highlights. We start in the north in tranquil Gräfrath, visit the Blade Museum, and then drive across town to the Industrial Museum. The afternoon belongs to the two landmarks in the southeast: the gigantic Müngstener Bridge and historical Schloss Burg, which towers majestically over the Wupper.
