Friedberg in der Wetterau is a city defined by its impressive medieval fortifications and rich historical tapestry. The most prominent landmark is the massive Adolfsturm, one of the oldest and largest freestanding castle keeps in Germany, which towers over the town and has sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. This tower is part of the expansive Friedberg Castle complex, one of the largest continuous castle grounds in the German-speaking world. Below the castle lies the historic Imperial City (Reichsstadt), featuring the broad Kaiserstraße, which originally served as a medieval marketplace. A unique subterranean attraction is the monumental Jewish Mikveh (ritual bath) from the 13th century, a deep and architecturally remarkable structure descending 25 meters into the ground. In more modern history, Friedberg gained international fame as the military post of Elvis Presley from 1958 to 1960. Fans still visit the "Elvis-Presley-Platz" and look for the special traffic lights featuring his silhouette, blending medieval history with rock and roll pop culture in a surprising way.
