Rheinsberg Palace (Germany)

Weather…

Rheinsberg Palace is picturesquely located on the eastern shore of Lake Grienericksee and is regarded as a hallmark of Frederician Rococo architecture. The palace attained its current form in the 18th century, when the Prussian Crown Prince Frederick, later Frederick the Great, resided here from 1736 to 1740 during what he called his happiest years. Under the direction of architect Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff, the former Renaissance water castle was transformed into a magnificent residence that served as Frederick's intellectual refuge and a sanctuary for the arts. Later, his brother, Prince Henry of Prussia, occupied the palace and expanded the grounds with significant monuments and garden architecture. The site is deeply intertwined with literature; Theodor Fontane featured it in his writings, and Kurt Tucholsky immortalized it in his novella 'Rheinsberg: A Picture Book for Lovers.' Today, the palace houses a history museum and the Kurt Tucholsky Literature Museum. Its extensive park, with its numerous sculptures and lake vistas, remains one of Brandenburg's finest gardens.
