Regensburg Cathedral (Germany)

Weather…

Regensburg Cathedral, dedicated to St. Peter, is the preeminent Gothic cathedral in Bavaria and the primary landmark of the city. Construction of the current building began around 1273 on the site of earlier Romanesque structures and continued over several centuries. The most striking features are the two 105-meter-high spires, which were only completed in the 19th century under King Ludwig I. Modeled after French Gothic architecture, the cathedral is renowned for its delicate stained glass windows dating from the 13th and 14th centuries. Inside, the cathedral houses significant art treasures, including the famous Annunciation group with the 'Smiling Angel.' It is also the home of the Regensburger Domspatzen, one of the world's oldest and most famous boys' choirs. Due to the susceptibility of the limestone used, the structure undergoes permanent restoration work. As part of the Old Town of Regensburg, the cathedral has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2006.
