Hohenzollern Castle (Germany)

Weather…

Hohenzollern Castle is the ancestral seat of the Prussian Royal House and the Princes of Hohenzollern, situated atop the 855-meter Mount Hohenzollern on the edge of the Swabian Jura. The current structure is the third castle built on this site; the first was mentioned in the 11th century and completely destroyed in 1423. The second castle fell into decay following the Thirty Years' War. The present neogothic edifice was constructed between 1850 and 1867 under King Frederick William IV of Prussia and is regarded as one of the most significant examples of Romantic architecture in Germany. The castle houses invaluable art treasures, including the Prussian royal crown and personal belongings of Frederick the Great. With its towers, ramparts, and striking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, it serves as a major cultural monument attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. To this day, the castle remains the private property of the Hohenzollern family.
