Santa Cruz de El Seibo is one of the oldest cities in the Dominican Republic, founded in 1502 by Juan de Esquivel. It serves as the capital of the El Seibo province in the eastern part of the country and possesses a rich colonial heritage. The city is famous for its deeply rooted traditions, particularly the bloodless bullfights held during the patron saint festivals in May. Geographically, El Seibo is located in a hilly region dominated by the Sierra de El Seibo, benefiting from fertile soil conditions. The local economy is primarily based on cattle ranching and the cultivation of cocoa, sugarcane, and citrus fruits. Historically, the city played a significant role in the re-conquest of the island from French forces during the Battle of Palo Hincado in 1808. Today, it remains a vital cultural and economic center in the eastern Dominican Republic.
