Coast Mountains (Canada)

Weather…

The Coast Mountains are a major mountain range in western North America, stretching approximately 1,600 kilometers (1,000 miles) along the Pacific coast of Canada and Alaska. Part of the Pacific Cordillera, they form a formidable natural barrier that separates the coastal maritime climate from the drier interior plateau. The highest peak in the range is Mount Waddington, reaching an elevation of 4,019 meters (13,186 feet) within the Pacific Ranges section. The landscape is characterized by deep fjords, massive icefields, and some of the largest non-polar glaciers in the world. Geologically, the range consists mostly of granitic rock and has been shaped by volcanic activity in the Garibaldi Volcanic Belt. The western slopes are covered in dense temperate rainforests that support a vast array of biodiversity. This region is also a significant hub for forestry, mining, and recreation, with Whistler being one of its most world-renowned winter sports destinations.
