Brčko City Hall (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Weather…

The Brčko City Hall, also known as Vijećnica, is one of the most magnificent buildings in the city and an outstanding example of pseudo-Moorish architecture in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was constructed between 1890 and 1892 based on designs by architects Alexander Wittek and Ćiril Iveković, who were also responsible for the famous City Hall in Sarajevo. The building is distinguished by its richly decorated facade, horseshoe arches, and the use of colored ceramic elements, typical of the Orientalist style prevalent during the Austro-Hungarian period. Originally conceived as the seat of the municipal administration and a savings bank, it has served various administrative purposes over the decades and currently houses the Government of the Brčko District. The interior architecture is equally impressive, featuring a central hall, grand staircases, and artistic stained-glass windows. Following extensive restoration work, the building now stands in its original splendor and is considered the cultural and administrative landmark of the region. It is protected as a national monument, representing the blending of Oriental and European influences.
