Srebrenik Fortress (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Weather…

Srebrenik Fortress is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Bosnia and Herzegovina, perched dramatically atop a steep rock near the town of Srebrenik. First mentioned in 1333 in a treaty signed by the Bosnian Ban Stjepan II Kotromanić, it served as a vital strategic residence for Bosnian rulers. Its geographical position offered an unparalleled defensive advantage over the Tinja River valley, controlling the key passage between the hinterland and the Pannonian plains. The fortress architecture consists of an upper town with a massive square tower and a lower defensive complex, connected by bridges and narrow rock-cut paths. For centuries, Srebrenik was a point of contention between the Kingdom of Bosnia, Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire, changing hands multiple times during military campaigns. Today, the fortress is protected as a national monument and is celebrated as one of the most pretty medieval sites in the Balkans.
