The Teknaf Game Reserve in the far southeast of Bangladesh is the only protected area in the country officially classified as a game reserve. Established in 1983, it covers an area of 11,615 hectares along the narrow Teknaf Peninsula. The reserve encompasses steep hill ranges covered by dense, evergreen tropical forest and borders the Naf River to the east, which forms the international boundary with Myanmar. Geographically, it is of critical importance as part of the elephant corridor that connects populations between the two countries.
