Reaching the lake generally involves taking a sturdy off-road vehicle locally known as a 'Chander Gari' up steep, winding mountain roads from the nearest district town. The final approach often requires a modest uphill hike from the vehicle drop-off point.
Best season
The dry winter season, running from November to March, is widely considered the best time to visit due to cool, clear weather and safer road conditions. Heavy monsoon rains in the summer often make the mountain roads slippery and highly treacherous.

The lake is set within a bowl-shaped depression surrounded by steep, densely forested hillsides and rugged tribal terrain. The pathways immediately around the water's edge are relatively uneven and can be quite muddy or slippery after rainfall.
