Tarpum Bay is a pretty settlement located in the southern part of Eleuthera Island in the Bahamas. The community is well known for its preserved historic buildings and its lively artist community, which was significantly shaped by the work of artist Malinne Macmillan-Hughes. Originally, residents lived mainly from pineapple exports, which flourished in the 19th century, before the village evolved into a center for fishing and crafts. The architecture exhibits typical Bahamian features with pastel-colored houses and ornate verandas. In recent decades, the place has become a quiet retreat for tourists seeking authenticity away from the major resorts. Every afternoon, the traditional fish market takes place at the pier, where local fishermen sell their fresh catch directly from their boats. The geographical location provides protected waters that are good for small boats and snorkelers near the shallow reefs.
