Avinguda Meritxell is the primary commercial and transport artery of Andorra la Vella, forming the economic heart of the principality. It extends from the historical core of the capital to the boundary of the neighboring Escaldes-Engordany parish, where it seamlessly transitions into Avinguda Carlemany. The street is named after the patron saint of Andorra, Our Lady of Meritxell. Geographically, it follows the natural contours of the valley floor and features an exceptionally high density of retail shops, banks, luxury boutiques, and shopping centers. The architecture along the avenue is a blend of modern glass-fronted designs and functional 20th-century buildings. In recent years, significant portions of the avenue have been pedestrianized or traffic-calmed to enhance the shopping experience. Beyond commerce, the area serves as a major hub for tourism, housing numerous hotels and gastronomic establishments. Avinguda Meritxell symbolizes Andorra's transformation from an agrarian region into a modern service-oriented economy. Especially during sales seasons and holidays, the area attracts thousands of visitors from Spain and France.
