Weather…

Tiddis, also known as Castellum Tidditanorum, is a remarkably scenic ancient city located near Constantine, built directly into the reddish cliffs overlooking the Rhumel valley. Unlike the typical grid pattern of most Roman settlements, Tiddis was constructed on steep terraces that follow the natural contours of the hillside. The site has ancient Berber origins, predating the Roman arrival, and served as a crucial defensive outpost throughout its history. Notable features include circular megalithic tombs, a Mithraeum dedicated to the mystery cult of Mithras, and an extensive system of water cisterns carved into the rock. The city's forum was commissioned by the influential Lollii family, who rose from this local North African community to prominent positions in Rome. The ruins also reveal remains of Christian basilicas and monumental gates, showcasing the cultural evolution of the region over centuries. Its striking red-hued stone and dramatic vertical layout make Tiddis a masterpiece of Roman-Berber architectural integration.
