Steinhuder Meer, yaklaşık 29,1 kilometrekarelik yüz ölçümüyle Kuzeybatı Almanya'nın en büyük gölüdür ve Aşağı Saksonya'daki geniş bir doğa parkının merkezinde yer alır. Su kütlesi, yaklaşık 30.000 yıl önce Vistül Buzul Çağı'nın sonunda sığ bir çukurda oluşmuştur. Gölün ortasında, 18. yüzyılda bir ada kalesi olarak inşa edilen ve bugün popüler bir gezi noktası olan yapay Wilhelmstein adası bulunur. Gölün çevresi, çok sayıda su kuşu için önemli bir üreme ve dinlenme alanı görevi gören geniş bataklıklar ve sulak çayırlarla karakterizedir.
