Mount Beshtor (Uzbekistan)

Weather…

Mount Beshtor, at an elevation of 4,299 meters, is the second-highest peak in the Pskem Range, located in close proximity to Mount Adelung in northeastern Uzbekistan. Its name is derived from Turkic languages, meaning 'Five Gates' or 'Five Passes,' alluding to the complex ridge structures and mountain passes in this part of the highlands. Situated within the Ugam-Chatkal National Park, the mountain features rugged alpine flora adapted to short summers and extreme winters. Geologically, the massif is closely linked to the formation of the Tian Shan system and consists mainly of metamorphic rocks. Due to its steep flanks and often unstable weather conditions, Beshtor is a challenging destination for mountaineers but provides unparalleled solitude away from tourist paths. It also functions as a vital water tower, with its snowfields contributing significantly to the flow of the Pskem river system, which in turn secures the water supply for the Tashkent Region.
