Budongo Forest Reserve (Uganda)

Weather…

The Budongo Forest Reserve in western Uganda is one of the country's most significant ecological zones, particularly renowned for its high density of primates. It is home to the largest known population of chimpanzees in East Africa, with an estimated 600-700 individuals. The Kaniyo Pabidi research station is a central hub for scientific study and chimpanzee tourism, allowing visitors to track habituated groups in their natural habitat. Besides chimpanzees, other primates such as the black-and-white colobus monkey, red-tailed monkey, and baboon also reside here. The avifauna is equally impressive, with over 360 bird species, including the rare Puvel's Illadopsis, making the forest a prime bird-watching destination. The forest also serves as a vital wildlife corridor, connecting Murchison Falls National Park with other forested areas and supporting the movement of species like elephants and buffaloes.
