Kinyara Sugar Works (Uganda)

Weather…

Kinyara Sugar Works is located in the Masindi District of Western Uganda and stands as one of the country's primary sugar production facilities. Originally established in 1971, the works suffered extensive damage during the Uganda-Tanzania War in 1979, leading to a total halt in operations. A major rehabilitation project supported by international donors began in the early 1990s, allowing the factory to resume production in 1996. The facility processes sugarcane harvested from its own vast estates as well as from thousands of outgrower farmers in the surrounding region. With an annual production capacity exceeding 110,000 tonnes of sugar, Kinyara significantly contributes to Uganda's domestic supply and export earnings. The site features a co-generation plant that uses bagasse, a byproduct of sugarcane crushing, to generate renewable electricity for its operations. As a major employer in Western Uganda, the company sustains thousands of livelihoods and supports regional economic development.
