Lake Malawi (Tanzania)

Weather…

Lake Malawi, also known as Lake Nyasa in Tanzania, is the southernmost lake in the East African Rift system and the third largest lake in Africa. It stretches for 560 kilometers and is shared by Tanzania, Malawi, and Mozambique, with the exact northern boundaries being a subject of diplomatic discussion. The lake is world-renowned for its evolutionary significance; it houses over 1,000 species of cichlid fish, nearly all of which are endemic, more fish species than any other lake on Earth. Geographically, it reaches a depth of 706 meters and features extremely clear, nutrient-poor water that provides convenient conditions for speciation. Economically, the lake is the livelihood for thousands of fishermen and serves as a vital transport route for the region. The surrounding shores are characterized by dramatic mountain ranges, such as the Livingstone Mountains, which drop steeply into the crystal-blue waters.
