Lindi Port (Tanzania)

Weather…

The Port of Lindi is located at the mouth of the Lukuledi River in Lindi Bay on the Indian Ocean and is one of the oldest ports of call on the Tanzanian coast. During the German and British colonial eras, Lindi served as an important administrative and commercial center but lost significance following the expansion of the nearby Port of Mtwara. Due to the shallow water depth in the bay, the port is primarily used today by coastal motor vessels and traditional dhows for local trade. Cargo handled consists mainly of agricultural products such as cashew nuts, coconuts, and seafood from the region. Despite its limited capacity for modern container ships, the port remains an essential supply point for the local population and the fishing industry. Historical buildings near the harbor testify to its past as a strategic junction for trade in the 19th century.
