Nyerere Bridge (Tanzania)

Weather…

The Nyerere Bridge, commonly known as the Kigamboni Bridge, is a major infrastructure project that spans the Kurasini Creek in Dar es Salaam. Opened to the public on April 19, 2016, it is a 680-meter long cable-stayed bridge that connects the central business district with the Kigamboni district. Before the bridge's completion, residents relied on ferries to cross the water, which often caused significant delays and safety concerns. The bridge features six lanes for vehicular traffic and two pedestrian walkways, significantly reducing travel time and boosting economic activity in the southern part of the city. It was named after Julius Nyerere, the first president of Tanzania, and was built through a joint venture between the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and the government. As the first major cable-stayed bridge in East Africa, it stands as a marvel of modern engineering and a symbol of Tanzania's urban modernization.
