Ljubostinja Monastery (Serbia)

Weather…

Ljubostinja Monastery is located near Trstenik in the small Ljubostinja river valley and stands as one of the most prominent examples of the Morava architectural school. Founded in 1388 by Princess Milica, the widow of Prince Lazar, the monastery was established shortly before the pivotal Battle of Kosovo. Following the battle, it became a sanctuary for the widows of the Serbian nobility, and Milica herself spent her final years there as a nun named Jevgenija. The monastery's architecture is celebrated for its harmonious proportions, intricate stone carvings, and distinctive rosette windows. Inside, the church preserves significant frescoes, including portraits of the ruling Lazar and Milica family and their sons. Ljubostinja is not only a site of deep spiritual importance but also a testament to the cultural flourishing of late 14th-century Serbia. Today, it continues to function as an active nunnery and attracts many pilgrims and art historians.
