Ion Creangă's Bojdeuca

Ion Creangă's Bojdeuca, located in the Ţicău district of Iași, is distinguished as the first literary memorial house in Romania, established on April 15, 1918. This modest, traditional Moldavian dwelling was the home of the celebrated writer Ion Creangă from 1872 until 1889. It was within these walls that he wrote his most famous works, including "Memories of My Childhood" and his collection of folk tales. A significant historical highlight occurred in 1876, when the national poet Mihai Eminescu stayed here for several months as Creangă's guest. The building reflects the rural architectural style of the 19th century, featuring two rooms separated by a hallway and an open porch overlooking the Ciric Valley. Despite undergoing several restorations, including a controversial modern update completed in 2023, it continues to preserve the spirit of the era through its exhibits of original furniture and manuscripts. It stands as a vital cultural landmark, representing the profound friendship between two of Romania's greatest literary figures.
