The Changa Manga forest is one of the largest man-made forests in the world, located near Lahore. It was established by the British in 1866, primarily to provide a sustainable source of timber for the steam locomotives of the North Western Railway. The forest covers 48.6 square kilometers and is a prime example of successful afforestation in an arid region. It is irrigated by an extensive network of canals. Today, Changa Manga serves not only for timber production but also as a major recreational area and wildlife conservation center. It houses a wildlife park with species such as the nilgai, spotted deer, and wild boar. A miniature railway winds through the forest and is very popular with families. The park also features a boating lake and a swimming pool, making it a good spot for day trips.
