The Wazir Khan Mosque in Lahore is regarded as one of the most magnificent examples of Mughal architecture, world-renowned for its elaborate tile work. Built during the reign of Emperor Shah Jahan and completed in 1641, it was commissioned by the imperial physician Hakim Ilm-ud-din Ansari, known by the title Wazir Khan. The mosque's facade is almost entirely covered with 'kashi-kari' mosaics, featuring intricate floral motifs and calligraphic inscriptions in animated colors. Its architectural layout includes four octagonal minarets at the corners and a central prayer hall crowned by five domes. A unique feature of the complex is the integrated bazaar (Calligraphers' Bazaar) located along the entrance axis, which historically supported the mosque's upkeep. Located within the Walled City of Lahore, the mosque has undergone extensive restoration by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture to preserve its delicate tilework and original frescoes for future generations.
