The Obudu Mountains are situated in southeastern Nigeria, within Cross River State, forming part of the western extension of the Cameroon Highlands. The region is renowned for its high plateau, which reaches an average elevation of approximately 1,576 meters and is characterized by steep escarpments that rise sharply from the surrounding lowlands. Geologically, the massif is composed of Precambrian granites and gneisses, shaped by millions of years of tectonic activity and erosion. Due to its elevation, the mountains experience a much cooler and more humid climate than the rest of the country, fostering a unique montane environment and diverse flora. Historically established as a cattle ranch in 1951, the area has since evolved into a premier tourist destination known as the Obudu Mountain Resort. The inclusion of a cable car system and mountain villas has made it accessible, while the region remains a vital ecological site for rare bird species and montane biodiversity.
